“So David fled and escaped, and went to Samuel at Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and stayed in Naioth. 19 Now it was told Saul, saying, “Take note, David is at Naioth in Ramah!” 20 Then Saul sent messengers to take David. And when they saw the group of prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as leader over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied. 21 And when Saul was told, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. Then Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also.” 1 Samuel 19:18-21 NKJV

God of the unjustly persecuted,

David has just escaped Saul because his wife Micah helped him (1 Samuel 19:12). I would probably have gone as far away as quickly as possible! When I reread this passage I find David does a wiser thing. He goes to a Godly man and stays for a while. He can look at his difficult and confusing situation knowing Samuel will not judge but take it to the Lord.

Three times Saul sent men to take David prisoner. Three times they are filled with Your Holy Spirit, God, and go home empty handed. They praised God and went home! Surely Saul must have realised he could not fight You! But then he comes himself. He prophesies even while on the way. Your Holy Spirit filling and enabling him to praise You. He even lays on the floor naked showing humility. He saw what he could become if he let go of the darkness, jealousy and murderous thoughts within him. That’s a fantastic exchange. You offered. But it was not taken.

Thank You that we can exchange all our hurt, shame, sin, darkness, for Your Holy Spirit of life and forgiveness because of Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-2). Help us recognise and respect those we can go to when we are confused or in difficulty who will seek Your face with us. Help us by Your Spirit, to let go of envy, jealousy, pride . . . Help us to praise in difficulty.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Monday 28th April 2025

My Jesus, my Savior
Lord there is none like you
All of my days, I want to praise
The wonders of your mighty love
My comfort, my shelter
Tower of refuge and strength
Let every breath, all that I am
Never cease to worship You

Shout to the Lord, all the earth let us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the King
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name
I sing for joy at the work of your hands
Forever I’ll love you, forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You

“I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved” John 10:9a NIV

Lord God Almighty, Yahweh, Jehovah,

I am? One of Your names from the old Testament that You told to Moses at the burning bush. We know You by so many names in the Bible and I wonder if “I am” encapsulates all of them! Here the name used by Your Son is to give us a picture of what He does rather than who He is? It seems strange to call Yous Son a gate. But He was also a carpenter. Jesus said He was and is the passage way, the person we must know, and pass through to be acceptable to You, to find forgiveness, peace and holiness. And it is what happens, the miracle, when we know Him, our gateway to You that is life changing.

Whoever enters through Jesus, will be saved. We don’t hear it spoken about much these days – being saved by Jesus Your Son. But You saved me. You saved me from loneliness, rejection, condemnation, guilt, jealousy, anxiety, fear of the future, sin, hell, death and the lack of a final destination.

We owe our lives to You, who came as our Saviour. We don’t have to grovel. Jump through spiritual hoops. Be afraid that Salvation may be taken away. We just need to stick with You and we will go in and out and find pasture (John 10:9). Now and forever. The great I Am our Saviour.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Saviour,

For family, friends, neighbours, health, joy and the knowledge they are loved by You and us..
For our church family, ministers and all who serve to hear and follow the voice of the Shepherd..
For all the Royal family. For Charles treatment to be successful and gentle. Kates full recovery.
For our government and MPs and their families. To walk upright and not follow their own desires.
For those who save lives: surgeons, life boats crews, Samaritan help lines, social workers.
For world Governments to make selfless decisions for peace and all humanity.
For Ukraine and Gaza permanent peace. Along with Yemen, Myanmar, North Korea, Chine, Sudan, Syria and all countries where there is war, aggression, oppression, dictatorship, slavery.
For the sheep who have wandered from Jesus to find their way back to faith.
For those locked in to depression, doubt and dilemmas to find the gate to Your green pastures.
That we might hear Your gentle voice and have a good day and a peaceful nights rest.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Lyrics: Darlene Zschech

Known as ‘Shout to the Lord’, this song was written in 1993 at a time of great discouragement for the family and their business and is a declaration of unshakeable faith in the face of setback.

“At the time, Darlene and her husband, Mark… had two babies, and with a struggling motorcycle-parts business, money was tight. It was during one particularly stressful day that Darlene snuck into the toy room where they kept their piano and put into song the spiritual truths to which she desperately clung: ‘Mountains bow down and the seas will roar at the sound of your name,’ and ‘Nothing compares to the promise I have in you.’

“Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out. 23 But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. 24 And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!”” Luke 8:22-24 NKJV

Master, Lord, God,

I have stopped at perishing for a couple of reasons Lord. Sometimes it seems to only be movies that have happy endings, life is not always like that. But here we know that this storm episode did have a happy if unusual ending. They were in real jeopardy. Perishing is worse than dying it leaves no hope for the future.

Sometimes I hear myself over exaggerating my situation and I do confess, as You already know, it is sometimes for a little sympathy. An excuse for a little personal pity party. We can all feel sorry for ourselves and sometimes justifiably! When trouble has passed or not arrived I am a little embarrassed. But our fear is our fear and it is real at the time. Sometimes it is not trivial. Help us to see when we are just feeling sorry for ourselves or when we need to ask for others to pray with us and find a sympathetic ear!

Here You had ask them to do something simple for fishermen. Cross the lake in a boat. Easy peasy – till something goes wrong. Life happens. Sometimes You do seem to be oblivious to the storms we are in the middle of. They were in real jeopardy. Other versions use danger or great danger. Jeopardy, the danger of loss, harm or failure. Exactly. Help us to know when we are, or feel in jeopardy, that You are there, fully awake, with the authority to speak peace. Whether that be through an experience, in a problem, difficulty, time of loss, failure or even death itself. Our ever present help, You neither slumber or sleep (Psalm 121).

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Master, Lord, God,

We pray:
For all our family, friends, neighbours, and our church family. Be their help and strength and source of peace today. Touch those who need healing.
For our Government and our King and Queen and all those who seek the best future for our nation, to know Your wisdom and act upon it.
For Gaza and the Middle East, for miracles, ceasefire and room to bring about an end to war.
For Putin, the Russian people and Ukraine, for men and women to choose peace over endless war.
For those areas in Afghanistan, Libya and Morocco that need it, to have provision for the winter.
For schools now back into the busy term running up to Christmas. May Your nativity be the focal point of planning for their Christmas celebrations.
For all those physically working on the seas. Cargo ships away from home for long periods, little fishing vessels trying to earn a living. Ferries, passenger ships and lifeboats. Let them not be in any peril.
For ourselves, for our days needs. For Your calm where we are going through real weather storms, emotional storms or if trouble as they say is rocking our boat.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
